JANUARY
It was getting harder and harder for me to feel comfortable with the little one’s toes poking my ribs. Even though I felt I was getting rounder by the minute, I barely felt any anticipation or anxiety for giving birth – we were so busy renovating and trying to get our home ready for the new family member, I didn’t have any time to plan for going into labor. Things had to get done. Little did I know I didn’t have as much time as I thought I had.
Baby was born: 19.01.2012
We got home from the hospital: 23.01.2012
Umbilical cord stump fell off: 24.01.2012
First bath: 25.01.2012
This is what most of the apartment looked like at the beginning of January. This is a photo of our bedroom and also the least flattering picture ever taken of me.
I was kidding – this one is the least flattering. I didn’t let my huge gut (doesn’t show on the picture, cool huh?) stop me from putting up wallpapers in the bedroom. Little did I know I would be going into labor the morning after this picture was taken…
… at least we were almost finished!
At the hospital at about 1 p.m., about to become a mother, clueless of what’s about to happen to me.
Around 8 p.m., an hour and a half after the ladybug was born. I couldn’t stop looking at her, I instantly felt I was born to do this. I knew it was the best thing I would ever do! The story of her birth is here {LINK}, in case you have yet to read it or want to read it again because it’s a beautiful story!
This is taken at the hospital moments before we were going to head home with the baby. I couldn’t stop the tears – this was where it had all begun, I had a hard time saying goodbye. Plus it was scary, going home with a newborn and not having the same kind of safety net as you do at a hospital. H had to constantly remind me that we’d get to actually bring the baby home with us and that there was no reason to cry.
Arrived home. Well, at H’s mom’s place, actually…
…meanwhile, we had the windows in our apartment replaced.
FEBRUARY
First attempts to hold her head up: 05.02.2012
First time outside in her stroller: 06.02.2012 (-14C)
First time she responded to my smile with a smile: 19.02.2012
A month after birth – laughing already. Her sleeping all through the night and being a cheerful baby gave a pretty good idea of what she was like as a person.
Already used to bathing and even starting to enjoy it!
MARCH
First swimming lesson: 13.03.2012
First time at a movie theater (me and daddy saw “We bought a zoo”, baby just quietly enjoyed looking at the ceiling lamps): 14.03.2012
First trip to Sweden (to see grandma): 15.03.2012
Started holding her head up on her own: 29.03.2012
This is when I started blogging so anything you need more details on is available in our archive at the bottom right corner of the site!
The baby enjoyed car rides so we could start visiting relatives that live further away. Here: with her little four-year old cousin.
Mama Pooch became more and more attached (here: literally) to the baby and made it her business to guard the kid and take care of her.
We went to the amazing photographer Krista Kõiv for some family photos. Was a wonderful day!
We packed our bags…
… and set sail to Sweden to visit my mom.
It was time for baby’s first swimming lesson, which she thoroughly enjoyed!
APRIL
April was a pretty routine month – nothing special happened except the baby kept growing and developing, plus we kept renovating our home and had our hallway done.
Started knowingly putting her hands in her mouth: 06.04.2012
Discovered her reflection in the mirror and interacted with it: 22.04.2012
Knowingly touched her toy (a panda-shaped rattle): 23.04.2012
She grew at the speed of light but could still fit in the bathroom sink.
